PROGRAM: SEAL OF HONOR author Gary Williams will be making a presentation to the Navy League on. Mr. Daniel Murphy, father of the late LT Michael P. Murphy, USN will accompany Mr. Williams to the event.
Books will be available for purchase and there will be time for autographs.

LT Michael P. Murphy, 29 was from Patchogue, NY. LT Murphy was killed by enemy forces during a reconnaissance mission, Operation Redwing, June 28, 2005. Murphy lead a four-man team tasked with finding a key Taliban leader in the mountainous terrain near Asadabad, Afghanistan, when they came under fire from a much larger enemy force with superior tactical position. Mortally wounded while exposing himself to enemy fire, Murphy knowingly left his position of cover to get a clear signal in order to communicate with his headquarters. While being shot at repeatedly, Murphy calmly provided his unit’s location and requested immediate support for his element. He returned to his cover position to continue to fight until finally succumbing to his wounds.
LT Michael P. Murphy was awarded the Medal of Honor “For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk f his life and beyond the call of duty as the leader of a special reconnaissance element with Naval Special Warfare Task Unit Afghanistan on 27 and 28 June 2005.

Gary Williams was born and raised in Upper Sandusky in Wyandot County, Ohio on March 5, 1955. He is the oldest of five children of Richard and Charlene Williams. His father Richard is a decorated Korean War combat veteran. Gary and his siblings Richard II, Kevin, Julie, and Darin were raised with a near reverent respect for those who wear the uniform of our nation.
Graduating from Upper Sandusky High School in 1974, he attended the Ohio State University before attending and graduating from the Tri-Rivers-Marion General Hospital School of Practical Nursing in 1978. After working at both the Marion General Hospital and the now closed Community MedCenter Hospital, Williams transferred to the Marion Correctional Institution where he worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) from 1985-1995. He promoted and transferred to the Corrections Training Academy in Orient, Ohio as a Training Officer in 1995, and also served as a member of the adjunct faculty of the Marion Technical College, and completed his paralegal training in 1997. He then transferred to the Warren Correctional Institution in Lebanon, Ohio in 2002 as a Training Officer.
Married to his wife Theresa (Tracy), who serves as a Parole Supervisor for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction in Hamilton, Ohio, they have six children, Aaron, Lisa, Bryan, David, Daniel and Stephen and two grandchildren Chantress and Caden, and currently live in West Chester, Ohio just north of Cincinnati. He serves as a member of the adjunct faculty at Sinclair Community College in Dayton and has guest lectured at colleges, universities and organizations throughout Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia.
