MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 17, 2009
CASCO BAY COUNCIL SPECIAL BOARD MEETING
Members Present: Robert Anderson, Frank Broadbent, Lee Fournier, Linda Grotton, Eileen Leighton, Richard Leighton, and Chester Rice.
Members Not Present: Louise Van Thorpe.
1. The minutes from the December board meeting will be emailed for approval.
2. Linda reported that we had $4497.23 in checking and $3784.10 in savings. $510.00 is a liability for the NASB Museum.
3. The presenter, David Jourdan, for the January 28th meeting will speak about the lost Israeli submarine. Representative Michaud will be asked to speak on veteran’s affairs on February 18th.
4. Dick and Chet have contacted the Maine Maritime Museum. They would like us to become a corporate member. We are requesting to use their hall for our dinner meetings if we can settle on a satisfactory price. It was suggested that, in that case, we put our plague on their wall.
5. The January board meeting is cancelled. The next board meeting is February 2nd.

CASCO BAY COUNCIL BOARD MEETING

Members Not Present: and Louise Van Thorpe.
1. The minutes from the September board meeting were accepted.
2. The treasurer reported our finances we have $4,657.40 in checking and $3,782.86 in savings for a total of $8,440.26. We will be giving the Sea Cadets $1000.00 and owe some minor amounts for supplies.
3. We will be looking into the initiation of a Sea Cadet corps in Madison. We went over the Portland Sea Cadet monthly report.
4. Steve Levesque will be our speaker at the November 18 Dinner. We will hand out a survey about choices for topics at the November dinner.
5. The January meeting will be on the third Thursday. David Jordan will be asked to speak.
6. We will look into having dinners at the Maine Maritime Museum.
7. Lee and Chet will approach BIW for greater involvement in the Chapter. We will request Pres. Geiger to speak at the December Dinner. We will request to have a BIW representative on the board.
8. We need to increase our membership.
9. Chet plans to step down as president in January. A new president and board members must be found.
10. The next meeting will be December 3rd at 6:30 at Curtis Library.

CASCO BAY COUNCIL BOARD MEETING

1. The minutes from the May board meeting were accepted.
2. The treasurer reported our finances are in good shape. We have $4,003.58 in checking and $3,776.12 in savings for a total of $7,809.70.
3. Linda will issue a check for $500.00 for the South Portland Coast Guard Sea Cadets and $1000.00 for the Orion Sea Cadets at the October dinner meeting.
4. Frank will update the board addresses.
5. Louise and Cecile Tetrev are on the Base Museum Planning Board.
6. The Christening breakfast for the destroyers crew and families we sponsored with the help of Chris Jones was very successful..
7. The joint meeting with the Castine Council is delayed until spring.
8. Chester Rice is looking into having the Sea Cadets at the next Dinner meeting on Thursday, October 22. (changed to 29th) Invitations will be sent and information place on the website.
9. We will as Steve Levesque to speak on the base reuse plans at the November meeting.
10. For the December meeting we will try to get Tom Zysk to speak on SONAR.
11. Bob is going to Mr. Abrams and the author of Not Forgotten about speaking at future meetings.
12. The next board meeting will be Thursday, November 5. Details will be sent to the board and placed on the website.

1. The minutes from the April board meeting were accepted.
2. The treasurer reported our finances are in good shape.
3. Our next dinner meeting will be at the South Portland Coast Guard Station on either June18th or 25th.
4. On May 17th we will be joining the Harpswell Garden on May 17th. club for the memorial service at the Base Chapel.
5. On July 12th the Orion Sea Cadets will be holding their picnic and our members are invited.
6. We will be sponsoring the Christening breakfast for the destroyers crew and families with the help of Chris Jones.
7. Plans are being made for a Joint meeting with the Castine Council in September.
8. Chester Rice is looking into having Tom Zysk to speak on SONAR at a future meeting.
9. Chester Rice presented the award at the Massabesic NJROTC honors night.
10. In an effort to save our limited financial resources we have decided to drop our membership in the Chamber of Commerce.
11. Louise Van Thorpe is working on the golf tournament to help sailors to attend the Navy Ball.
12. We are looking into membership, especially corporate membership.
13. The next board meeting will be Wednesday, June 3 at 6 PM Curtis Library. Please RSVP.
MINUTES OF THE APRIL 2 , 2009
CASCO BAY COUNCIL BOARD MEETING.
Members Present: Frank Broadbent, Richard Leighton, Chester Rice, and Louise Van Thorpe.
Members Not Present: Robert Anderson, Eileen Leighton, Lee Fournier, and Linda Grotton.
1. The minutes from the March board meeting were accepted.
2. As to finances: Linda Grotton our treasurer was absent so the report was given by Chester Rice who presented the complete budget for 2008 A discussion followed and it appears we will be in good financial shape for the coming year since we have severely reduced our postal budget. We paid the yearly fee of $135 for filing our nonprofit status paperwork. We are evaluating our participation in the Chamber of commerce noting no specific gains by being members. The golf tournament is planned to go ahead as it was last year. After this year there may not be sufficient numbers of participants to hold the Navy Ball which the tournament helps to finance.

3. Our next meeting will be at the Bath Holiday Inn on April 23rd. Sarah Smiley will be our speaker. Approval was given for one nights lodging and a gift. Chester Rice will escort her. We wish to thank Cecille Tetrev for efforts putting together this meeting.
4. Plans are being made for a Joint meeting with the Castine Council in May and the SP Coast Guard in June. We are looking into an event when the Coast Guard Commandant comes to BIW. We have been asked to participate in the base closing ceremony.
5. There is still no solid response to our request for Sea Cadet housing on the Base after it is closed.
6. There will be a change of time and place for our board meetings due to member’s schedules. Mr. Rice will check members and let them know about the arrangements
by the next dinner meeting.

2. The February event at The Bath Holiday Inn was well attended and very informative. Dick Leighton asked about the Sea Cadets Housing on Base.
4. We are going to ask Captain Krestos for the March meeting.
5. We are moving the board meeting to the first Thursday at Patten Library in Brunswick. The April date is the 2nd.

CASCO BAY COUNCIL BOARD MEETING

Members Not Present: Lee Fournier, Theresa Jackson, and Christopher Jones.
(The Meeting was held at Brunswick Tour and Travel)
1. The minutes from the November board meeting were emailed for approval and accepted.
2. Linda Grotton our treasurer we had $4545.48 in checking and $3768.75 in savings.
A check for $1000.00 will be hand delivered to the Main Street Bath group due to problems with earlier mail nondelivery. She reported the Quicken program was working well and a minor problem with it will be worked out with the help of Chet Rice.
3. The January event has been rescheduled to January 29, at The Bath Holiday Inn. Captain William Fitzgerald, Commanding Officer, NASB will be the speaker. Suggestions for future events were made and members are following up on them.
4. This is the last month Cecille Tetrev will be president. The board expressed appreciation for a job excellently done. A list of prospects for board officers and members was presented and they will be contacted personally by board members.
5. The article about the Council Cecille wrote was published in this month’s Chamber Connections.
6. Ideas for fund raising were discussed, but no conclusions were reached.
7. Linda Grotton announced that due to the birth of twins James Griffin will be stepping down from leading the Orion Squadron. A discussion of a new home for the squadron was held with member seeking new information about plans for NASB availability.
8. Louise Van Thorpe will arrange for passes to the base for board members..
10. The next board meeting is 5:30, Tuesday, February 3rd, at the Transient Quarters.

CASCO BAY COUNCIL BOARD MEETING

1. The minutes from the October board meeting were accepted.
2. Linda Grotton our Treasurer was absent so the report was given by Cecille who said that we have approximately $3000 in the treasury. We gained $134.03 from the dinner and $34.00 from the 50-50. We purchased a new Quicken program and paid $130.00 for the crew of the Myers breakfast.
3. The Myers Breakfast was a great success.
4. The $500.00 check for the Orion Sea Cadets was sent.
5. United States Navy League president, Mike McGrath attended the christening of the Meyers and also attended the Navy Ball.
6. The Murder Mystery 1st Annual Fund Raiser event was held November 1st and hugely enjoyed by all.
7. On October 30th, author, Mary Lee Coe Fowler gave a speech at our meeting.
8. Captain Fitzgerald, Commanding Officer, NASB will be our speaker on Thursday, November 20th at the Holiday Inn, Bath.
9. There will be no meeting in December.
10. The next board meeting is 5:30, Tuesday, January 6, at the Transient Quarters.

A quorum was not present.
The minutes from the August Board Meeting were accepted.
A. Since we have not had a quorum two times lately, PLEASE NOTIFY CECILLE TETREV IF YOU ARE ATTENDING THE BOARD MEETING OR CAN NOT MAKE IT. It is very discouraging to go to the effort of attending a meeting when a quorum is not present or like this time, just three members.
B. The following items were reported:
1. Linda Grotton our Treasurer was absent so no report was given. Cecille said that wehave approximately $3000 in the treasury. A vote was taken by email and approval as given to spend $199 for the purchase of a new Quicken program.
2. The Check for the Orion Sea Cadets was sent soon. The final $500 will be delivered in December.
3. The Meyers christening is this Saturday. Invitations have been received. We are sponsoring the breakfast with for the crew and families with a donation of up to $100. United States Navy League president, Mike McGrath will attend the christening and also attend the Navy Ball.
4. The Murder Mystery 1st Annual Fund Raiser event will be held November 1st.
5. On October 30th, author, Mary Lee Coe Fowler will be our speaker.
6. On Thursday, November 6th, the dinner for the Stockdale will be held at the Maine Maritime Museum. We plan on sponsoring for $250 and filling 14 seats to be paid by members who attend at $50 each.
7. The election of new officers is approaching and nominations are requested as well as suggestion for people to approach for board membership.
8. Plans were made to choose a speaker for the November dinner.
C. The next board meeting is 5:30, Tuesday, November 4th, at the Transient Quarters.

2. Preparations were made for the Airshow. We are manning our own Navy League booth
in hanger 5. Involved members have received VIP passes and passes to park for our booth.
3. Cecille presented our new vinyl banner and stand which we will use in our Airshow booth.
4. On October 16, author, Mary Lee Coe Fowler will be our speaker.
5. A check for $500 was presented to the Orion Sea Cadets.

CASCO BAY COUNCIL BOARD MEETING

Members Not Present: Theresa Jackson, Lee Fournier, Linda Grotton, Eileen Leighton, and Richard Leighton.
A quorum was not present.
- The minutes from the June Board Meeting were accepted.
- The President reported the new Treasurer, Linda Groton, reported approximately $2942.33 in the checking account as of July 8, 2008. Linda will give a report in August\September.
- The budget will is to be completed by September.
- We will send a check for $500 to the Orion Squadron, Sea Cadets as first payment of $1000.00 allotted.
- The crew of the submarine USS Maine had a successful namesake visit. We will send thank you certificates.
- Chris Jones reported on ship visits. On October 18th, DDG108, Wayne E. Meyer will depart. The USCG training ship, Eagle, will be visiting Portland. On August 1st, Wing 5 will have a change of command.
- The Murder Mystery 1st Annual Fund Raiser was successful raising $725.00. The event is to be rescheduled.
- Roger Dumont feels confident that the Council will get $1500 .00 from the fund raiser.
- The Great State of Maine Airshow is scheduled for September 5-7. Louise Van Thorpe has made arrangements for our participation. We will get a banner to use at our booth.
- On July 16 at a lunch event at the Kennebec Tavern, RADM Tom Hall will speak. Invitations were sent by email to Council members, local military and BIW.
- The Coast Guard Dinner was a huge success due to Chet Rice’s efforts. The Admiral Preble Award and Will Bryant award were given to two deserving individuals: LLT Gerald J. Hewes and MST1 Scott K. Thoresen. The Council also awarded the each a $50.00 Savings Bond.
- An August event is to be skipped due to work required for the Airshow
- The June website was not posted due to a computer crash. The August site will be up on time.
- The chamber ‘spotlight’ was given to the printer on June 15, however the person at the Chamber neglected to change from the national information to our council’s information. The Chamber agreed to give us another “Spotlight” in January 2009.
- Chris Jones was nominated for Northern New England President and a National Director.
- The next board meeting is at 5:30, Tuesday, August 5th, at the Transient Quarters on the base.

Members Not Present: Gary Cornwell, Theresa Jackson, Lee Fournier, Linda Grotton, Eileen Leighton, and Richard Leighton.
A quorum was not present.
- The minutes from the May Board Meeting were accepted.
- The Council mourns the passing of long time board member Thomas Peterson.
- Theresa Jackson reported that she had sent an email welcoming columnist Smiley to Maine and suggesting she might like to speak at one of our meetings.
- Invitations for the Murder Mystery Dinner were sent out.
- The Treasure reported $1630.90 in the account. We will disburse $100 to fund the USS Stockdale breakfast; $227 to the Chamber of commerce: and $50 for Saving Bond plus other expenses such as postage and payment for awards. In the future we will need to supply our own paper supplies. The account is in the process of being computerized.
- We will change our PO Box X to a smaller box due to cost and increased use of email.
- A Line for voluntary contributions will be added to our mailings.
- Other Councils charge yearly dues. Given our financial condition, we will weigh the pros and cons of dues.
- The email vote to approve $100 for the IA meeting was confirmed. Lee Fournier reported that the meeting was a huge success.
- Approved up to $100 to fund the breakfast for the USS Stockdale crew and family. The tour and breakfast will be at 0900. This will be our April Meeting.
- Members agreed the Maine Street Bath Dinner was a great success.
- The April event, a joint meeting with the Penobscot Council on April 26, was reported to be excellent. COL McAleer’s presentation on emergency management was very interesting and informative.
- The June event is planned to be an honors ceremony for the South Portland Coast Guard. A dinner and tour are planned
- The Golf tournament will be held at the Bath Country Club on July15th starting shotgun at 0800.The Council will provide golf balls at cost of $150.
- We need to plan a meeting recognizing the leaders of the Sea Cadets and MJROTC. A Pot Luck dinner (Plus a $20 fee for members and guests) for leaders and kids on a Saturday in August At Judy Wood’s house was offered as a suggestion. Note: Members are invited to the June 7th Orion Squadron picnic. See web site for more information.)
- The visit of the USS Maine crew From July 1-6 was discussed as were the plans for the air show, the housing of the Council’s memorabilia, the difficulties with the proposed Base Museum, and Sea Cadet’s station.

Members Not Present: Robert Anderson, Gary Cornwell, Theresa Jackson, Eileen Leighton, Richard Leighton, Thomas Peterson, Louise Van Thorpe, and Judith Wood.
- There was no quorum so no official action was taken.
- The minutes from the January Board Meeting were accepted with the change to board members only receiving badges.
- The treasurer was absent. Chet Rice presented the Annual Budget summary. We lost money last year.
- Theresa Jackson being absent there was no report on publicity. Our council will be featured soon in the SPOTLIGHT section of the Chamber of Commerce newsletter.
- We need to obtain more email addresses in order to save on postage. Our website, www.navyleaguecascobay.org, is our electronic newsletter.
- Linda Groton reported on the Sea Cadets. They had their honors ceremony and Theresa Jackson presented the Roosevelt Award. The Madison Sea Cadets are sponsored by the VFW and American Legion. WE are not sure if we are to supervise them or if they are in our district. We will audit the Orion Squadrons records. The South Portland CG Sea Cadets are having a ceremony for their two new CPO’s . Chris Jones will attend.
- We have two new members. Chet will arrange to see they get our welcome letter and survey.
- The March meeting is planned for at the Kennebec Tavern in Bath. The speaker will be Admiral “Grog” Johnson. Invitations will go out soon.
- The April event will be a joint meeting with the Penobscot Council on April 26.
- June 26th is planned for the Coast Guard dinner. A tour has been requested.
- The Golf Tourney is set for June 26 at the Bath Country Club. This most likely will be last year of our sponsorship.
- Rick and Cil Tetrev are offering a silent auction for a dinner. A fund raising committee is needed for this event.
- The change of command for South Portland Coast Guard Station’s Jim Mc Fearson is May 30.
- From July 1-6 the crew of the Maine will come to Maine.
- The Main Street Bath Dinner for the USS Sterrett is Thursday April 17 at Maine Maritime Museum. Seats are $50.00.
- The USS Stockdale Christening is May 10. It is open to the public.
- Louise Van Thorpe and Judy Wood are our representative for the Air Show planning committee.
- Chet Rice reported that ship visited will be posted soon.
- The annual report is being worked on. We need to find the status of our scholarship fund.

Special Guest: Lee Fournier
- Mr. Fournier made some announcements and Said he is ready to accept the program chair. He had to leave for a prior engagement.
- The minutes from the December Board Meeting were accepted.
- The treasurer reported our bank account totaled $5,305.26. So far no money has been received from the National for dues.
- The board voted Mr. Fournier in as program chair.
- The president reported on the discussion of the executive meeting.
- The next meeting is planned for January 24th in Bath. The speaker will be Richard Gay. The invitations have been sent.
- The February event is planned to honor the Reserve Sailor of The Year. An activity to take place during the cocktail hour will be planned.
- We are working on the Joint meeting of the three Councils in March.

- There was no quorum so no official action was taken.
- The minutes from the January Board Meeting were accepted with the change to board members only receiving badges.
- The treasurer was absent. Chet Rice presented the Annual Budget summary. We lost money last year.
- Theresa Jackson being absent there was no report on publicity. Our council will be featured soon in the SPOTLIGHT section of the Chamber of Commerce newsletter.
- We need to obtain more email addresses in order to save on postage. Our website, www.navyleaguecascobay.org, is our electronic newsletter.
- Linda Groton reported on the Sea Cadets. They had their honors ceremony and Theresa Jackson presented the Roosevelt Award. The Madison Sea Cadets are sponsored by the VFW and American Legion. WE are not sure if we are to supervise them or if they are in our district. We will audit the Orion Squadrons records. The South Portland CG Sea Cadets are having a ceremony for their two new CPO’s . Chris Jones will attend.
- We have two new members. Chet will arrange to see they get our welcome letter and survey.
- The March meeting is planned for at the Kennebec Tavern in Bath. The speaker will be Admiral “Grog” Johnson. Invitations will go out soon.
- The April event will be a joint meeting with the Penobscot Council on April 26.
- June 26th is planned for the Coast Guard dinner. A tour has been requested.
- The Golf Tourney is set for June 26 at the Bath Country Club. This most likely will be last year of our sponsorship.
- Rick and Cil Tetrev are offering a silent auction for a dinner. A fund raising committee is needed for this event.
- The change of command for South Portland Coast Guard Station’s Jim Mc Fearson is May 30.
- From July 1-6 the crew of the Maine will come to Maine.
- The Main Street Bath Dinner for the USS Sterrett is Thursday April 17 at Maine Maritime Museum. Seats are $50.00.
- The USS Stockdale Christening is May 10. It is open to the public.
- Louise Van Thorpe and Judy Wood are our representative for the Air Show planning committee.

- The annual report is being worked on. We need to find the status of our scholarship fund.

- Mr. Fournier made some announcements and Said he is ready to accept the program chair. He had to leave for a prior engagement.
- The minutes from the December Board Meeting were accepted.
- The treasurer reported our bank account totaled $5,305.26. So far no money has been received from the National for dues.
- The board voted Mr. Fournier in as program chair.
- The president reported on the discussion of the executive meeting.
- The next meeting is planned for January 24th in Bath. The speaker will be Richard Gay. The invitations have been sent.
- The February event is planned to honor the Reserve Sailor of The Year. An activity to take place during the cocktail hour will be planned.
- We are working on the Joint meeting of the three Councils in March.

- The Orion Sea Cadets will hold their Awards Ceremony in February at the China Rose. Members are encouraged to attend. We are obtaining the Roosevelt Medal for both units.

- The minutes from the September Board Meeting were read and accepted.
- The treasurer handed out a report. No money has been received from the National for dues.
- There were four new members this month: Richard A. Gay, Arn Heggers, John P. Morin, and Kyle E. Sadeck. The president will welcome by phone. A Letter to the members requesting suggestions for new members and donations is being prepared. It will be enclosed with the next newsletter.
- The next meeting is at Winners on the 15th of November. The December luncheon is planned for the Muddy Rudder on the 15th (or 22nd). A representative from BIW will be requested as a presenter.
- Chris Jones will send a condolence card to the family of a Coast Guard member in Boothbay. Frank Broadbent will send Thank you letters to Roger Dumont, Louise Van Thorpe, Theresa Jackson, and James Rogers for their participation in hosting the golf tournament.
- Chris Jones reported progress on revising the Council’s bylaws.
- There is a very serious need for adult leadership in both Sea Cadet groups. If no volunteers come forth they will have to disband.
- Louise Van Thorpe and Judy Wood are working on the committee preplanning the next Air Show.
- The President’s Own Marine Band concert was a big success drawing almost two thousand. A log will be made of what was done in preparation for the show.
- Theresa Jackson attended the Sea Cadets Boot Camp.
- Chet Rice is on the planning committee for the next Main Street Bath Dinner in April for the USS Stockdale.
- Chris Jones suggested we invite the local recruiters to present at one of our meetings. A presentation by an official from BIW was also suggested for a future meeting.
- The need for regular monthly meetings of the membership was discussed resulting in the decision to have a December meeting, but somewhat scaled down in order not to incur extra costs to the Council.

- The minutes from the September Board Meeting were read and accepted.
- Treasurer reported $1663 in checking. $503 is expected from Air Show volunteering. $200 is to be paid out for golf balls and a minor amount to Louise Van Thorpe for supplies. Since we only served as sponsor for the Sea Cadet’s car wash, they will receive the $200 they earned plus the $500 as the last installment for the year.There was a discussion of the $1300 owed to the City of Portland for rental of auditorium. Another question arose about when the check(s) from Navy League are coming in.
- Secretary reported very low traffic on our website. The need for a newsletter soon was discussed and an article about the website will be included therein.
- The Air Show was a big success despite Saturday’s rain. Our volunteers - Louise Van Thorpe, Chet Rice, Frank Broadbent, Cil Tetrev, Dick and Eileen Leighton, and Theresa Jackson – earned $503.
- The Golf Fund Raiser plans were discussed. Louise Van Thorpe, Eileen Fletcher volunteered to work the table at the Golf Tourney.
- Plans for the President’s Own Marine Band were discussed. Publicity arrangements were described and plans for more publicity were made.
- The need to increase our membership, especially younger members, was discussed. We will have a table at the Band Concert to recruit new members. Eileen Leighton and Richard Leighton are considering co-chairing membership after they review the book.
- The November 15th meeting will feature COL Duering talking about his experiences in Afghanistan. Arrangements for the venue were discussed.
- Chris Jones announced that the christening of the USS Stockdale will be in May instead of December.
- Fund raising ideas were discussed. A letter to our members describing the Council’s activities and need for support is being written by Judy Wood, Cil Tetrev, Gary Cornwell to be mailed out to our members next month.

- The minutes from the June Board Meeting were read and accepted.

- The Secretary reported the new June website was up and running.
- The Vice President gave the report for the Youth Programs Chair announcing that the Coast Guard Sea Cadets will need new leaders by September or much more help. He reported that the Orion Squadron’s picnic was a great success. The Sea Cadets are invited to events for the Liberty Ship Project.
- Using the auspices of the Council was approved for extending a non-profit status to a proposed car wash by the Orion Sea Cadets.
- The crew of the submarine USS Maine we co-hosted at the Bath Holiday Inn on July 3rd. was a great success.
- Tabled two proposals: $500 for Orion Sea Cadets will be given on the weekend of September the seventh at their meeting and strengthening our relationship with the Massabesic Junior Marines will be discussed when Linda Groton is present.
- Approved $50 to aid the IA Networking group.
- Senator Collins’ office was contacted to have her speak at our November dinner, but no response was received. Possibly we may have presentations by the Recruiters or COL During.
- The Maine Street Bath dinner on the 19th is all set for our sponsorship. We may have to contribute $100.
- Our request for the Sea Cadet’s Building was turned down by the BRLA committee. General Libby and others will be contacted to include the Sea Cadets in their plans for the July 17th BRLA meeting.
- Dick Leighton reported progress on the Marine Corps Band Concert. Louise Van Thorpe has purchased the bottled water. VIP seating and invitations were discussed. Chet Rice will seek sponsors for printing.
- The Air Show has requested a VIP list. There is a possibility of a Clam Bake. We will need 12 volunteers to man our booths on September 14 and 15.
- A By-laws committee was appointed to report by December.
- A new slate of officers will be drawn up by the selection committee of Louise Van Thorpe, Cecille Tetrev Dick Leighton, and Allan Weeks. The website will ask for nominations and volunteers.
- The Sea Cadet’s boot camp will be overseen by Theresa Jackson.
- A sum of up to $200 was approved for a breakfast for the crew and families of the USS Stockdale at its christening on December 15th.
- The Council will be included on the notices of ship visits to our region.
- It was decided to not accept the offer of. sponsoring a commercial booklet for the DDG 109 since the ship will publish one of their own.
- Assisting in organizing/hosting the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society’s Volunteer recognition in September was discussed.

- Mrs. Theresa Jackson was welcomed to the board as our new Publicity Chair.
- The next meeting is planned for Saturday, June 16 at the Rusty Scupper, South Portland Coast Guard Station. The dinner will honor the junior commissioned officer of the year and junior enlisted of the year- (The Admiral Preble and Will Bryant Awards.)
- The motion to sponsor two tables at the Main Street Bath dinner for the crew of the Sampson was passed with Chet Rice’s assurance that we will have places paid for prior to the event.. The Council may have to pay $100.00.
- The crew of the submarine USS Maine is being hosted at the Bath Holiday Inn on July 3. There will be a$10 charge for this event.
- Senator Collins’ office was contacted to have her speak at our monthly dinner and a November date is being negotiated
- From 1100 to 1500 on July 8th the Sea Cadets are holding their picnic on the base. (Request directions from the guard at the gate.) All members are invited. It is requested that they bring drinks or salads..
- Mr. J.R. Phillips, Executive Director of the Maine State Museum, Cecille Tetrev, and Dick McLean representing the Experimental Aircraft Association, made the application and presentation for the Museum, Sea Cadets the stationary P2 and P3 and the Memorial and Friendship Gardens to the various BLRA committees.
- General Libby made the case for the Veteran’s Center that includes the commissary, pharmacy, and exchange.
- A committee of Cil Tetrev, Theresa Jackson and Louise Van Thorpe was formed to join with the Navy Ball Committee to plan the August 15th golf tourney
- Dick Leighton and Judy Wood reported on their meeting about the Marine Corps Band. Theresa Jackson was added to the committee. Tickets will be free and handled through Portix. We provide bottled water and publicity.
- Our request for a concession at the Air Show is on the list. Chet Rice and Louise Van Thorpe will work on getting further information.
- The secretary had no report to give.
- The treasurer presented her report and gave copies to the board members. Judy noted that dining income was up $500.00 and that the money from the national has not been received yet.
- Chris Jones reported on our future contribution to the IA families, but warned about legal obligations if we fund child care for the event.
